In 2014, the final year of my Fine Arts degree (Graphic Design major) at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in New Zealand, I was awarded a scholarship as the top graduating student to travel to New York to complete the New York Typography Summer School in 2015. After returning from this incredible experience I wanted to sustain the drive and momentum from my last year of study. 

My bridal bouquet illustrations came from my love of nature. I am a Landscaper’s daughter and my Grandmother was a florist, so 'flora and fauna' have been engrained into me as a source of inspiration. 

The idea also came from attending magnificent luxury weddings of my beautiful friends. I am a total novice when it comes to weddings so when they told me how much they had spent on their wedding flowers my jaw dropped and a I had a ‘light bulb’ moment – although you have amazing photographs of your wedding the photographs of the flowers are typically left for the album – to me this was such a shame and not to mention a waste!

It seemed that the stars were aligning for this idea when I discovered that the first wedding anniversary is paper, making these illustrations a thoughtful token as well as a special gift. 

Illustration details

All illustrations are hand drawn originals, created using marker pen onto high quality paper stock. Sizes vary from A4 to A2.
